(A)MARE
The first monograph by Chiara Vario
(A)mare is a new project that wants to raise awareness about the different status in Sicily.
The word (A)MARE has different meanings considering to the context we are using this word too and all of these are included in this book.
Amare (to love) intended for my obsession to my place, the place where I was born and the place that made me to grow as a person and human being.
A mare (to the sea) my favorite place. A place where I am feeling free. The sea always gives me a sense of calm and self-awareness in many of the choices I did during my whole life. I spent my best memories next to the beach.
AMMARE, very Sicilian euphemism. When someone said to you “semu ammare” means that we are in an uncomfortable situation. And this word explains deeply the social status of many of the citizens who had the disadvantage to born, grow and still live in the wrong side of the city where they do not see a great present but neither a great future.
